Star Trek: Lower Decks star Tawny Newsome has had quite a year, not just starring as Lieutenant Beckett Mariner in the hit animated comedy, but also bringing Mariner to live-action in a crossover episode with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
In Star Trek: Lower Decks season 4, Mariner resisted her promotion to Lieutenant, junior grade and behaved in self-destructive ways. Furthermore, Mariner revealed her trauma from the death of Ensign Jaxa Sito (Shannon Fill), who was her friend in Starfleet Academy. Sito died in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode, "Lower Decks," and this defined Mariner's desire to remain a Lower Decker. But when push came to shove, Mariner still saved the galaxy from their disgraced former classmate, Nicholas Locarno (Robert Duncan McNeill).
